Highlights

Released a complete edit of the “Lunatics!” pilot episode, “No Children in Space” just for Patreon supporters as part of the transition to monthly subscription funding:

Most of January was spent on documentation and administration work. I accounted for the time spent in Nov-Dec 2024 on completing the NY2025 release. This was a really useful case for improving my planning estimates. This is when I do my annual accounting and reports, as well as filing partnership tax returns for Anansi Spaceworks.

Anticipating more traffic in April, I spent some time this January doing practical editing and organizing on the Lunatics Project website (this Production Log). I revised practical guides for contributors, copyright and privacy issues, and so on. And I improved the tab system at the top of the page. There’s still more to do, but I think it’s a lot better than it was.

I made annual data and screencast log archives, written to M-Disc BD-R media.

Made several disruptive discoveries about my upcoming plans, leading to a lot of administrative changes:

  • Changing business banks (not started yet, but will be necessary, soon).
  • Changing storefronts, because Gumroad dropped support for physical products. Probably going to set up a self-hosted storefront via YunoHost (either Abantecart or Prestacart, most likely).
  • Decided that this will be a good year to switch away from Google Mail, back to a self-managed mail service, and possible to self-hosted.

I researched the current availability of DVD replication and duplication services for creating.

Pilot Episode DVDs

I explored the current available options, as well as what I would need to include in a full open-movie release for episode one of “Lunatics!”  I outlined two basic releases:

4-Disc Special Limited Numbered Edition of 100 Copies:

  • Pressed NTSC-format DVD9 of the episode, extras, selected samples of source, with HD video as data.
  • PAL-format DVD5 on M-Disc media, also with HD video and selected extras in digital formats.
  • Audio CD of “Music File 1” for Lunatics Series (Creative Commons Music Sampler)
  • M-Disc BD-R (25 GB) “Source Extract”, with episode sources and supporting library sources for it.

1-Disc Regular Edition:

  • Pressed NTSC-format DVD9 (same as in the above collection).

Came up with a low-tech solution for the short run M-Discs, assuming the disc duplicator won’t be ready in time, which is simply to make a disc-sized rubber stamp. I think this could give a nice, personalized touch:

Stamped Disc 4
