HIGHLIGHTS
November 2024 was an upsetting and complicated month for me, although no really serious tragedies happened. But we had a lot of car problems, and of course the US presidential election, in which Donald Trump unexpectedly won was very worrying.
PRODUCTION
I did extensive recovery work on the files for the TR-Train sequence, and rescaled the train-exterior shots, TR2 and TR4, now conceived as compositing shots, with the interior action replaced with a mask. Then I will create match-move shots combined with the train-interior action in TR3.
About 11 hours of November production work was folded in with December’s Timelapse:
DOCUMENTATION
Edited production timelapses for work from July to October 2024. I made four separate videos:
Timelapse: 2024 Lunatics Project Production Work
Timelapse: Making “Impossible Voyage” Techno/FX Soundtrack
Timelapse: Making of “Raven Rap” (October 2024)
Timelapse: Making of “Halloween Concert” Video (October 2024)
I really needed to work out my feelings about the election and what it will mean for 2025, so I broke my usual “no partisan politics” rule and wrote the “Entering the Dark Forest” post for my Lunatics Production Log which talked about the election, the possible political, social, and economic impacts — and how they might specifically affect our project. And then I started thinking about plans for what I can do, though I cut most of that out to be used in a later article.
Floated the idea of creating a small paid hosting service on my planned co-located server, including Fediverse instances: PeerTube, Pixelfed, Iceshrimp, Friendica, and WriteFreely. Started writing this up as a business plan, but not fully thought out yet.
SERVER IT
Upgraded the YunoHost server, but the WordPress doesn’t automatically upgrade. I will need to do that migration manually. However, I’m afraid this might break stuff, so I’m waiting for a time when I’ll be able to clean up the mess if it does.
MAINTENANCE
This was the real killer for me this month!
One car required a replacement headlight ballast, which is not only an expensive part, but exceedingly difficult to replace. Another was in an accident, which fortunately did not cause any injuries, but left us with a big bill to get it out of the impound, and we still have a bent axle to repair. And we helped our son to purchase a car, which was rushed a bit because of these transportation problems.
The ceiling light in my office also failed, and I had to replace it with a new LED fixture.
