This month (October 2024), I decided that for various reasons including project promotion and my own mental health, I really should be producing more smaller projects: ones that can be done in a few days to a week, start to finish. It definitely feels good to finish things!
Ideally, these will be experimental projects, giving me a chance to try out new techniques or software.
I genuinely think I will make more progress on “Lunatics!” if I’m doing this, because of the morale boost.
For October, I completed two short projects.
The first was a spur-of-the-moment inspiration: I created a soundtrack to go with George Méliès’ 1904 sci-fi/fantasy film “The Impossible Voyage” (or “Voyage à Travers L’Impossible”), featuring CC By-SA licensed music and sound effects from FreeSound.org, including tracks from Graveyard Child Escape’s techno album “New and UnNew”
The second was an idea I’ve been sitting on for about a year, based on an audio recording my son made years ago for a high school English project, which allowed me to try out simple stop-motion animation (very simple: no armatures or character models — the characters are winter squash and a seasonal black bird decoration). I added a little bit to the beginning and end as well as another free-licensed music track (from Alone in the Chaos’ “The First Chaos”) as a backing track for the rap:
I’m not sure what short projects I will do in November, though I have several ideas, and I do plan to do some more “set tour” videos for “Lunatics!”
