I get these questions a lot, so I’m answering it here and including it in the FAQ: (TL;DR version: “NO” and “PROBABLY, but with some qualifications”) IMAGE: Georgiana Lerner in the “Kazbek-Compatible Child Seat” for “No Children in Space”. The original Kazbek design won’t accommodate someone as small as a 7-year-old child, so the International Space Foundation had to commission a specially-engineered solution. Her spacesuit is also custom (derived from a US design) and requires an adapter (integrated into the seat) to interface with the Soyuz-SF life-support system. Hi all! I wanted to let you know that we have launched the fund-raiser for production of the pilot episode, “No Children in Space”: Lunatics Animated Series Pilot – “No Children in Space” We really wanted to launch on Moon Day, July 20th, and we have. This is of course, the 43rd anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing on the Moon. We were working really hard to make this deadline (really important, because we actually advertised the date this time). So, I’m really happy we made it.
We have extremely busy working on the Teaser Trailer for “No Children in Space” for the last couple of days and the collaboration seems to be working out. I think we’re all learning a lot and getting the team together. And I want to show you this cool model…
We are pleased to announce our core team of seven very talented artists for modeling, rigging, and animation: Andrew Pray, Cosmin Planchon, Guillaume Côté, Sathish Kumar, Vyacheslav Yastrebcev, Timothée Giet, and Gorka Mendieta. They will be working on the “teaser trailer” for “No Children in Space” and some animation tests, all of which will be released during our Kickstarter campaign (which launches THIS FRIDAY – JULY 20TH – “MOON DAY”).
We are now announcing the principal voice cast for the pilot episode of “Lunatics”: William Roberts (Rob), Karrie Shirou (Hiromi), Ariel Hancock (Georgiana), Lex Quarterman (Tim) Paul Birchard (Josh), and Veronika Kurshinskaya (Anya). These are the six series regular characters who will be in the pilot episode. There are two more regulars coming in episodes 2 and 3, who we have not yet cast.
Finally! I can tell somebody… We now have six voice actors confirmed for the pilot episode, who will play the six series regular characters who appear in the pilot (Georgiana, Hiromi, Rob, Tim, Josh, and Anya — in order of apperance): Rob will be played by William Roberts . Hiromi will be played by Karrie Shirou . Georgiana will be played by our daughter Ariel after all (we reviewed auditions from a few adult actresses to be sure this is what we wanted to do — they were good, but a real child’s voice sounds much better, and Ariel did quite well on the audition). Tim will be played by Lex Quarterman . Josh will be played by Paul Birchard . and
Casting and internship applications ar now closed. If you have already contacted us and we are waiting on a read from you, please go ahead and send it in. We’ll be trying to make our decisions on principal cast for the pilot episode (i.e. Georgiana, Hiromi, Rob, Anya, Josh, Tim, and Sergei) by the end of the day tomorro (Monday). We’ll then try to settle on the animation team and supportin cast before next Saturday (July 7).
A reminder to any of you who are thinking of applying for an internship or auditioning to be on the voic cast for “Lunatics” / “No Children in Space” (and additional series regular parts): the submission deadline is this Saturday, June 30th. We’ll try to make the decisions on principal casting by July 2nd and finish both casting and internship decisions by July 7th. We also may b interested in commission proposals for certain major modeling tasks, especially character mesh modeling, where we may need an experienced modeller.
We’re currently doing five things simultaneously: casting voice actors, reviewing applications for 3D artist internships, finishing our pre-production Kickstart work and rewards, training on the software, and planning for our next Kickstarte which will pay for the production of the pilot episode, “No Children i Space”. Everything is complicated and interlocked, and I am very busy camper. But this is pretty fun, I have to admit!
